Renovating the building is one part of a total project to be done on the Barton property, Maloney said. "It's a fantastic spot for these uses because it's centrally located within the school district," he said of the Barton site. Most of those functions will move over from their current location at the former Benjamin Franklin Middle School on Mill Creek Road, Maloney said. It also will be the new location for school board meetings, he said. Once renovated, the Barton building will have offices for school district Superintendent Melanie Gehrens, other district-level administrators and their support staffs, and maintenance, operations and transportation personnel, Maloney said. "The board considered the company's past performance, reputation, bid and its willingness to work with the district to resolve the issues that arose during the construction of the elementary schools, and determined that Reynolds is an appropriate choice," said school board President Angela Nober. The company will do the job under the provisions of the state's Guaranteed Energy Savings Act, meaning that it will incorporate features such as enhanced insulation new energy efficient heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems windows that allow less heat to escape and LED lights into the renovation. Reynolds served as construction manager for the three new elementary schools, but will be both construction manager and general contractor for the Barton project, said Maloney. Barton was one of nine Bristol Township elementary schools that closed when the school district consolidated elementary operations in three large new schools each costing about $40 million.ĭistrict Operations Director Bob Maloney said he hopes the renovation can start in the fall and be finished by spring 2018. The school board hired Reynolds Construction at a cost not to exceed $9.4 million to renovate the 59,416-square-foot school, located at Blue Ridge Drive and Blue Lake Road in the Levittown part of the township. The Bristol Township school board took a major step recently toward transforming the vacant Clara Barton Elementary School into the school district's new administration, operations and transportation center.
